Automotive OEM & Aftermarket

A leading manufacturer of commercial truck and trailer parts looking to eliminate paint bleed from covering product ID tags. Magnets being used in the process caused bleeding and common high-temperature masking tapes were difficult to remove cleanly and quickly, making it difficult to perform EP&T for manufactured parts throughout the process.

Plustar performed an on-site evaluation of the existing product and through the discovery process it was determined that a custom size, easy to apply solution was needed. It had to withstand the wash/spray/baking/curing temperatures while painting but remove quickly and cleanly when complete.

The Solution:

Evaluation of the painting process and materials being used led Plustar to create a unique custom-made solution. Samples were provided for site evaluation and approval. A special laminated, custom die-cut and tabbed masking tape, to meet the client’s very specific dimensions was required and provided for testing and approval. Plustar provided finish rolls, along with an automated dispensing system, simplifying the application process, speeding up productivity and eliminating the bleeding issues on the paint line. The unique features of this tape, the adhesive-free finger tabs, film rigidity, high-temp resistance with clean removal, all played an important part in solving this critical issue.

The result was an improvement in line speed, elimination of rework and reduction of repetitive motions for employees.
